I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
He will not let your foot slip—
he who watches over you will not slumber;
indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
The Lord watches over you—
the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.
The Lord will keep you from all harm—
he will watch over your life;
the Lord will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.
Let me say, this Psalm came true in my family and my life last weekend, when I was in Mangalore. Though at the very moment it didnt strike to me all of it, but a little pondering and reflection on why it all happened, really did reveal to me God’s bigger plan for me and my family.
It all happened on the Sunday, my family including me, where traveling to a destination, and it was a important event for us to be there on time. And all those who know about my family we are always at a place quite before than needed. Literally very much before time. And same as that, we were pacing our way on a good 4-way lane on our Ford Figo. Somehow with a surprise and my brother’s thought, we were saying the rosary while we were traveling. At once from nowhere, a bike rider, just jumps into the road, comes a bangs to our car from the side, which makes my dad who was driving apply brakes at once. Since it was raining, the biker who was now behind our car, lost control and banged again to our car from the back.
We get out of our car, bike rider and pillion both are fine. Car has been dented on the side door, and also back bumper. We just move to the side of the road, a little heated, but then a calm debate follows on, and it ends we however have to move to our destination, so with just some details of the person who banged into us, we continue our journey, our rosary, reach to our destination and the day goes on.
A incident, that really kept me pondering, why it all happened. Come on, my dad, my bro and me have been riding from many years in this city, nothing like this has ever happened. On this day, and specially we are saying the rosary and something like this just hits us. Why? Why the loss for us? Was there something wrong that we did or were doing?
Hmmmmmm at that very moment, nothing was clear, but time passed by, slowly it struck me, hey, if the timing was not right, the biker instead of striking us at the side, would have fallen in front of our car, and that would have been a bigger tragic to handle, a loss of life too maybe. But that didnt happen. A little pacified my heart was now.
A little later, it did strike me, imagine, what if on that day, Devil had really set a trap in front of us, for something really bad to happen? Seeing from God’s point of view, how would he have saved us from it?
God had to intervene in this situation, he had to do something, but then not end up causing more chaos than planned by the devil. So here a well timed accident I could say, a small dent on our car, no loss of lives.
Was quite taken aback now with this revelation to me, that yes, God all powerful and mighty, had a greater plan for us all, a mission incomplete yet, and we had much more to do, and he had to save us from whatever Devil was trying to do.
I also realized we always see the smaller picture, the current situation, the current loss that we feel, but when we try to see the bigger picture, the greater plan God has for me and all of us for that matter, these small incidents, losses are just to help us go through the bigger one’s, a learning experience, a stepping stone to success to be put in better words.
Yes, I certainly believe, that day, God really did work in our lives. Today the guy who banged into us, is not ready to pay, and my family has to go through this loss now, but I believe, God will take care of it all.
